For the second time this season, senior Nick King of the Bradley baseball team was honored with Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week accolades, announced by the league on Monday.

King helped lead the Braves to a 3-1 week – allowing two hits and one earned run in two starts and 10.2 innings pitched. Batters hit just .063 in the two Bradley victories as King also struck out 15 players.

In midweek action against Western Illinois, King pitched four scoreless innings during an 11-1 victory, allowing one hit with four strikeouts. The senior then returned to start the rubber game of a key Missouri Valley Conference series against Indiana State and again allow just the one hit (zero in the first six innings) and one earned run in 6.2 innings of work. King added a career-best 11 strikeouts as Bradley earned the 5-3 victory.

Overall, King is 3-3 during the 2022 campaign with a 3.59 earned run average and 61 strikeouts. He leads the Valley by allowing opponents to hit just .202 against him this season and with 6.61 hits allowed per nine innings (ranking 53rd nationally). He is also sixth in the league and 196th in the country with his 3.59 ERA.

King, who was also named the MVC Pitcher of the Week on April 18 after helping BU win a series against No. 16 Dallas Baptist, is the first Brave to collect the accolade twice in a single season since Elliot Ashbeck in 2015.

The Braves, who have won three of their last four series, return to action this weekend with a three-game set at Valparaiso. The teams open play on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
