LEXINGTON, Ky. -- For the sixth consecutive year and the 16th time in the last 18 years, Bradley Volleyball earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, according to a recent announcement by the AVCA.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.

The Braves were one of 10 Missouri Valley Conference teams to earn AVCA Team Academic Award honors in 2021-22 and Bradley is one of just 12 teams nationally to earn the distinction at least 16 times over the last 18 years, joining American, Bowling Green, Central Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Marist, Memphis, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Western Kentucky and Wichita State.

Overall, Bradley took home the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 10th time in the last 11 years.  The Braves boasted a 3.56 grade point average for the 2021-22 school year to join a total of 1,213 collegiate and high school programs that earned the distinction, including 215 NCAA Division I women's volleyball squads.

Individually, 14 Bradley Volleyball student-athletes earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in at least one of the two semesters for registering a GPA of 3.30 or higher in 2021-22, including 10 individuals earning the distinction in both semesters.

Former standout Hannah Thompson became the 10th two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2021 after she was voted a second-team pick and the 2021 MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year was one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.  In addition, Bradley had two CoSIDA Academic All-District selections for the first time since 2005 with Kora Kauling joining Thompson among the honorees this past fall.  The Braves boasted a league-best three First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete selections with Karagan Coggin also voted to the squad to give Bradley three First-Team Valley Scholar-Athletes for the third time in program history and first time dating back to 2002.

The Braves tied for third in the MVC standings at 12-6 in 2021 and the team's 24 league wins over the last two seasons are tied for the most in the Valley over that stretch.  The 2021 season saw Bradley make the second post-season appearance in program history, with the Braves reaching the second round of the NIVC.
