MVC Announces 2021-22 Academic Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Nearly 80 percent of Bradley student-athletes received recognition from the Missouri Valley Conference for their academic achievement during the 2021-22 school year, according to a release of the league's three academic award lists Thursday.

Of Bradley's 218 student-athletes, 174 qualified for the MVC Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes who recorded a minimum 3.2 grade point average for a specified term (Fall 2021 or Spring 2022), must have been a member of an athletics team and must have been enrolled full time during the term they earned the honor.

In addition to the MVC Honor Roll, 59 Bradley student-athletes representing all 15 of the school's NCAA Division I teams, received the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum 3.5 grade point average for each of the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA and participation in athletics a minimum of two years.

Ten individuals were recognized with the 2022 MVC Presidents' Council Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative GPA, participation in athletics a minimum of two years and progress to within 18 hours of graduation by the end of the Spring 2022 semester. Those honorees included four individuals from men's cross country/track & field in Jack Becker, Jack Franklin, Charlie Parrish and Drew Wenger along with women's runner McKenzie Altmayer. Also earning the MVC Presidents' Council Academic Excellence Award were Ari Boya (men's basketball), Gabi Haack (women's basketball), Elyse Emerzian (women's golf), Grace French (softball) and Hannah Thompson (volleyball).

The latest recognition from The Valley adds to a lengthy list of academic accomplishments for Bradley student-athletes during the 2021-22 school year:

Bradley boasted two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans with volleyball's Hannah Thompson and McKenzie Altmayer of women's cross country/track & field both earning Second-Team Academic All-America honors after the pair were both third-team honorees in 2020-21. The duo represents the 10^th and 11^th two-time Academic All-Americans in school history and Bradley is just one of 13 schools in the nation (just one of three outside a Power-5 conference) to feature multiple Academic All-Americans in each of the last eight years.
Thompson also took home MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors during the 2021 volleyball season and was one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. For the second straight year, women's basketball's Gabi Haack was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
After earning the MVC's Elite 17 Award at the 2021 MVC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship to cap the 2020-21 school year, Charlie Parrish garnered the MVC Elite 17 Award at the 2021 MVC Cross Country Championship this past fall.
For the third consecutive year, Bradley boasted five CoSIDA Academic All-District V selections.
In addition, 26 Braves were voted First-Team MVC Scholar-Athletes for the most honorees during a school year dating back to 2018-19.
