Game Recap: Soccer |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley soccer team earned its first clean sheet of the season en route to a 1-0 victory over Southern Indiana on Tuesday night at Shea Stadium. With the win, the Braves remain unbeaten at home in 2022 and improve to 2-3-1 overall, while the Screaming Eagles drop to 0-5-1.

The teams played a conservative first half before the action picked up in the second 45 minutes of play. With the score deadlocked at zero halfway through the period, Pepe Mellado finally put the Braves in front with his second goal of the season. Jack Douglas beat his defender to the end line and centered the ball to Mellado – who finished with a one timer for the 1-0 lead. Kaloyan Somov also assisted on the goal in the 68th minute of play.

The one tally was all the scoring the Braves would need on the night to secure the victory. Making his first collegiate start in the net, Will Nicholson stopped all four shots on target to earn the shutout victory, including one in the final minutes of the first half off a free kick destined for the upper corner.

Overall, Southern Indiana finished with a 10-9 edge in shots on the day, while Bradley held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Braves now turn their attention toward Missouri Valley Conference action when they open league play on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Belmont.
