Flaherty Leads Women’s Golf On Day One At Nittany Lion Invite

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Senior Mara Flaherty sits two shots out of the top 20 in a tie for 27th and Bradley Women's Golf is tied for 14th in the team standings after the opening two rounds of play at the Nittany Lion Invitational Saturday.

Flaherty is the leader in the clubhouse for the Braves at five-over par 149, closing the day in a tie for 27th overall after she chased a first-round 76 with a season-best one-over 73 Saturday at the par-72 Penn State Blue Course.

As a team, Bradley carded rounds of 308 and 304 and will enter Sunday's final round tied with Columbia for 14th overall at 612, six shots ahead of 16th-place Bucknell (618). The Braves are just three back of 13th-place Towson (609) and four behind 12th-place Navy (608).

Junior Grace Aromando was Bradley's top performer in the first round, carding a season-best two-over 74. She fired a second-round 76 and is one shot behind Flaherty at 150 in a tie for 29th.

Sophomore Maria Perakis turned in matching 77's during Saturday's action and is tied for 53rd (154), while freshman Allison Pacocha was three shots better in the afternoon as she followed up a first-round 81 with a 78 to close the day in a tie for 81st (159). Junior Harriet Barker rounded out the team scoring for the Braves in 84th at 162, posting rounds of 83 and 79.

Tournament-host Penn State leads the field at five-under 571 with Boston College (582) and Kennesaw State (587) rounding out the top three in the 16-team standings.

The final round of the Penn State Invitational is slated to tee off Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
