Game Recap: Volleyball |
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Freshman Kendall Minta had a team-best nine kills and junior Doga Topcicek tied for match-high honors with 16 digs, but Bradley Volleyball opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a 12-25, 25-21, 13-25, 17-25 setback to Indiana State Friday at ISU Arena.

Indiana State (2-7 overall, 1-0 MVC) hit .300 in the contest as the Sycamores topped the Braves (4-9 overall, 0-1 MVC) in four sets.

The Sycamores broke open what was a four-point contest in the first set at 12-8 with a five-point spurt to take a 17-8 lead.  Another five-point run later in the frame gave Indiana State a 24-11 edge as the Sycamores took the stanza 25-12.

Bradley claimed the second set 25-21 to even the match.  The Braves led 19-15 when Indiana State used a push to get to within one at 22-21.  Sophomore Silan Demirkol notched one of her five second-set kills to give Bradley a 23-21 advantage and followed it with back-to-back aces as Bradley took the second 25-21.  Demirkol finished with five kills, two aces and five digs to highlight the second-set victory.

In the third set, Indiana State hit .457 as a team and the Sycamores got seven kills from Karinna Gall to take the frame 25-13.  The Sycamores took control with a five-point push that gave Indiana State a 12-6 edge.  The lead was nine at 22-13 when Indiana State tallied the final three points to claim the set 25-13.

That momentum carried over to the fourth set with Indiana State scoring the first five points of the frame and jumped out to a 9-3 lead.  Bradley battled back to eventually take a 12-10 lead, but three straight Sycamore points gave Indiana State a 13-12 advantage.  Bradley trailed 17-16 after a Sycamore error, only to have Indiana State rattle six straight points and close out the match with an 8-1 run to take the set 25-17.

Junior Loren Scott posted a double-double, finishing with 18 assists and 11 digs for the Braves.

Bradley closes out a two-match road swing Saturday with a 5 p.m. match at Evansville.
