Box Score The Bradley Braves found a tough challenge in their first ever meeting against the Murray State Racers.
The first basket of the game came from Bradley's
Isis Fitch when she made a jumper from the baseline, but Murray State was quick to reply with points of their own from Macey Turley. This kicked off a 9-0 run for the Racers, with another basket from Turley and two from Hannah McKay. The run came to an end when
Caroline Waite found
Daija Powell for a quick two points. Once again, Macey Turley came back at the Braves as she hit a 15-foot jumper before the first media timeout. Bradley was down 6-11. Both teams were shooting 50% from the floor, but Murray State was winning the rebounding battle.
Katelyn Young nailed a three pointer right after the media timeout to push Murray State even further ahead of the Braves.
Alex Rouse found a few points on a pull up jumper, but Young came back with a made shot off the glass. The first three of the game finally came for Bradley when
Isis Fitch nailed her shot from beyond the arc. Murray State found three points off an and one, but Bradley continued to fight back as
Ruba Abo Hashesh found Rouse for a jumper and
Veronika Roberts drew a charge. The Racers once again added three points on an and one. The Braves ended the first period down 13-22, shooting 43% from the floor and 33% from three but without any free throw attempts. Murray State shot 56% from the floor, 50% from three and 100% from the free throw line.
Ruba Abo Hashesh found two points on a friendly roll to kick off the second quarter, and it was once again a Macey Turley three that gave Murray State their first points. Abo Hashesh and Turley traded baskets once more before Powell was fouled down low and made both free throws. Then came another three from Turley.
Veronika Roberts managed to snag her own rebound and put it back for her first points of the game. Roberts found two more points after McKay made a jump shot for the Racers. A made jump shot from Katelyn Young led both teams into the media timeout. Bradley was down 23-35, shooting 43% from the floor, 25% from three and 100% from the free throw line. The Racers couldn't seem to miss, as they shot 56% on field goals, 63% from three and 100% on free throws.
Back on the court, Powell made two free throws after being fouled. Young continued to shine for Murray State as she dropped in a shot down low. Powell once again found herself and spun away from her defend to make another basket. It was once again Young who continued to push the Murray State lead, with a made shot down low and a three.
At the half, Bradley was down 27-44. The Braves were struggling to make baskets, only shooting 38% from the floor and 20% from three, while Murray State shot 58% from the floor and 67% from three. Murray State out-rebounded Bradley 19-12 and had nine more assists than the Braves in the first half.
Coming out into the third, Katelyn Young scored the first points for Murray State after Powell fouled her on a shot down low. The Racers went on a 16-0 run with points coming from Hughes, Young and Turley. Powell was the one to end the 16-0 run, but Young came right back and hit a floater in the lane. As the media timeout was called, Bradley found themselves down 29-55. They were shooting 33% from the floor, 13% from three and 100% from the free throw line, but Murray State was lights out, going 60% from the floor, 64% from three and 75% from the free throw line. The Racers were now out-rebounding Bradley 25-14 and also had more assists (16-5).
Murray State continued to keep their foot on the gas. Jaidah Black made an easy layup, Cayson Conner scored an easy shot off the glass, and Hannah McKay made a basket to get her a double-double. Abo Hashesh and
Nika Dorsey managed to score a few points for the Braves, but there was only so much to be done.
The fourth quarter began as a battle between Young and Rouse, who went back and forth on baskets, until Black made a shot to put Murray State up by 30 again. Bradley brought in a fresh group of subs, which led to points from
Katy Wade and
Megan Barton.
Bradley ultimately fell 48-83. The Braves shot 33% from the floor, 9% from three and 90% from the free throw line. Murray State couldn't seem to miss, finishing the game by shooting 55% from the floor, 47% from three and 80% from the free throw line. The Braves were out-rebounded 25-42 and had 17 less assists than the Racers.
