PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley Volleyball fell short in a closely contested five-set match against Illinois State on Monday night.
Bradley met Illinois State for the first time this season at CEFCU Arena. The Redbirds claimed the first set by a score of 25-22. In the second set, Bradley responded with a 27-25 victory, but Illinois State rebounded in the third set with a 25-18 win. The Braves bounced back once more with a 25-22 fourth set victory to force a fifth set. Illinois State narrowly prevailed over Bradley in the fifth set with a 15-12 victory.
Senior Jasmine Green tallied 17 kills for the Braves, while Karagan Coggin and Abby Johnson each had 10. At the net, McKenna Sheib collected eight blocks, the highest of her career. Kendall Minta notched seven blocks, and setter Loren Scott recorded six.
The Braves had a hitting percentage of .130, while the Redbirds hit for .138. Bradley impressed with 17 blocks. This match continued Bradley's stretch of five-set matches to four in a row.
After the match on Monday, Coggin now has 995 kills in her career. If she reaches the 1,000 mark, she would be the 16th player in Bradley history to join the club and the most recent since Hannah Thompson. She is also seven sets away from breaking the all-time record of 510.
Bradley returns home this weekend to face Indiana State and Evansville for the first time this season. They play Indiana State on Friday at 6 PM and Evansville on Saturday at 5 PM at Renaissance Coliseum.
