SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Cal. – Bradley Men's Basketball closed out the 2023 SoCal Challenge with a win over UTEP to win the Surf Division Championship. They took down UTEP by a score of 63-59.
The Braves led the Miners at halftime with a score of 37-26. They finished out the half with two dunks made by Malevy Leons and Darius Hannah after two steals from the BU defense.
Bradley shot 41.9% from the field, while UTEP shot 37.5%. The Braves also recorded 19 rebounds and 20 points in the paint.
Connor Hickman led the way for Bradley with 10 points and two three-pointers. Malevy Leons tallied seven points and five rebounds, while Darius Hannah collected five rebounds.
In the second half, the Braves took down the Miners to win the 2023 SoCal Championship Surf Division Championship. Bradley is 5-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season. This is Brian Wardle's third regular season title after his 2018 Cancun Challenge title and 2021 Don Haskins Sun Bowl championship.
Bradley shot 82% from the free throw line after Christian Davis landed four in a row in the closing seconds of the game. They also had 38 points in the paint. The Braves defense played exceptionally well after allowing a season-low 59 points.
Hickman ended his night with 16 points and two three-pointers for BU. Leons recorded 13 points and six rebounds. Hannah had eight points, eight total rebounds and three blocks, while Ahmet Jonovic had eight points off the bench for Bradley. Davis had nine points and four rebounds with five free throws made in the game.
