Game Recap: Baseball |
Jacksonville, Fla. -- Despite building a 7-0 lead to start the game, the Bradley Braves drop the rubber match of the series against the Jacksonville Dolphins.

Mother nature hit the Braves again causing their Friday game against Jacksonville to be pushed to Saturday creating a doubleheader.

Game One Recap

The fireworks started early for the Bradley Braves when Connor O'Brien homered in the top of the first inning, his fourth consecutive series with a home run.

The Dolphins would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded walk. Jacksonville would only capitalize on the one run but then scored eight unanswered runs through the next six innings.

The Braves scored three runs in the eighth inning but it was not enough and took a 9-4 series-opening loss.

Kris Armstrong powered the Dolphins to a 9-4 win after he homered twice in the game, once in the third inning and in the second inning.

Evan Chrest earned the win for Jacksonville pitching six innings, allowing one run and striking out 11 Bradley batters.

Game Two Recap

After taking game one, the Dolphins looked to grab the series win by sweeping the doubleheader. Jacksonville got on the board first in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Justin Nadeau.

The Braves responded with a run of their own in the next top half after an RBI double from Connor O'Brien

Jacksonville responded with two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth and the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

Bradley rallied late and scored three runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Connor Manthey and a two-run home run from Carson Husmann, his first of the season.

Husmann would tie the game in the eighth on an RBI double. Easton Harris followed Husmann and singled to right field which scored Husmann and gave Bradley the 6-5 lead.

Bradley would tack on one more run on an RBI double from O'Brien, his second RBI double of the game.

Connor Langrell earned his third save of the season after slamming the door shut in the ninth with two strikeouts.

Game Three Recap

The Braves looked like they were headed for a series victory in the third game of the season after they jumped out to a 7-0 lead through 2.5 innings.

Ryan Vogel scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and Jackson Chatterton picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field which scored TJ Manteufel

In the second inning, Vogel picked up his first RBI of the day on a single to center field that scored Husmann. Manteufel walked which brought one more run in for the Braves in the second inning.

In the third inning, Adam Brian singled to right field and brought in Manthey. Vogel picked up two more RBIs later in the inning on a double that scored Harris and Brian.

Down but not out, the Dolphins fought back in the third inning scoring four runs on a sacrifice fly, a fielding error and a home run from Kris Armstrong, his third of the series.

Jacksonville would make it a one-run game in the fourth inning after a two-run home run from Malloy.

Vogel, the junior from Metamora, Illinois, continued his career day with an RBI single to left field scoring Harris to give Bradley an 8-6 lead.

The Dolphin's offense stayed hot scoring four runs in the fifth inning with a flurry of singles to take a 10-8 lead. Jacksonville extended that lead to 11-8 in the seventh inning on another RBI single.

Vogel hoped to lead one more rally, picking up his fifth RBI of the day on his fourth hit but it was not enough for the Braves. The Braves dropped the rubber match 11-9.

Notable Performances

Ryan Vogel finished the weekend 6-13 at the plate with his career day on Sunday. Vogel set career highs in hits and RBIs for a single game.
