St. Louis, Mo. – George Watson was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday. Watson is one of nine Bradley Track & Field athletes named MVC Scholar-Athletes for the 2022-23 season.
Watson enjoyed a magnificent season for the Braves, setting a school record in the 10,000m event, winning the 5,000m at the MVC Outdoor Championship and winning the 3,000m and 5,000m at the MVC Indoor Championship. Watson also took first place in the 1500m at the Fighting Illini Challenge.
Among the nine MVC Scholar-Athletes from Bradley, three are scheduled to compete at the 2023 NCAA Track and Field Championships West Preliminary in Sacramento, California.
Tiana LoStracco (Women's 1500m),
Charlie Parrish (Men's 3000m Steeplechase) and
George Watson (Men's 10,000m) will be running from Wednesday through Saturday, attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
To qualify for the honor, Valley Track & Field student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Athletes must have placed in the top eight in an individual event or be a part of a relay team placed in the top three in an event at either the 2023 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships or the 2023 MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
