Bradley Baseball announces 2025 Team Captains

Peoria, Ill.-- The Bradley Baseball team has announced their 2025 team captains as Travis Lutz, Nick Hosie, Beau Durbin, and Cole Smith.

"Our captains were voted on by their peers to help lead our team. For us to be successful, we must have captains who know and understand our philosophy and culture but are also able to communicate and reinforce our standards to the rest of the team," said Bradley Head Coach Elvis Dominguez. "These young men are a great choice and example of what our program represents."

Travis Lutz is a  senior left-handed pitcher from Bartonville, Illinois, Lutz joined the Braves after transferring from Illinois Central College (ICC) in his sophomore year. A vital part of Bradley's rotation for the past two seasons, he has recorded 116 strikeouts in 126.2 innings pitched. Notably, Lutz set a career-high of nine strikeouts in a single game against Belmont last season. In addition to pitching, Lutz contributed offensively with a .222 batting average, 12 hits, and one home run, including a three-hit game against Illinois State and two RBIs last season.

Nick Hosie is a senior catcher from Canberra, Australia who transferred from Colby Community College last season. Appearing in 21 games for the Braves, Hosie recorded five home runs and maintained a .963 fielding percentage. A few notable performances include hitting two home runs against Lindenwood and recording three RBIs against Iowa last season. 

Beau Durbin is a sophomore infielder from Morton, Illinois who transferred from Illinois Central College (ICC). Returning as a key piece to the Bradley lineup, last season for the Braves' he led the team in batting average (.358), hits (67), doubles (15), on base percentage (.415). Some notable games include hitting a grand slam against Indiana State, four hits against Illinois State, and going 3-for-4 with one RBI and three doubles against SIU. 

Cole Smith is a junior infielder from Dubuque, Iowa who transferred from Southeastern Community College this season. Smith helped lead the Blackhawks to the NJCAA D2 World Series and was given the honor of ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove at third base and center field in 2022 and 2024. He was also named the ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year and currently tied the school record for walks in a single season (51).
