Setting the Table
The Bradley Braves and Evansville Purple Aces will meet for the 64th time when the Braves travel to the Ford Center in Evansville, IN. The Braves lead the all-time series 39-24, with the Purple Aces leading 18-11 in Evansville. BU has won 13 of the last 15 meetings. Evansville is currently tied for 7th place in the Valley with Indiana State and Southern Illinois. Bradley is tied for 2nd place with the Northern Iowa Panthers at 9-4 in league play. This will be the only regular-season meeting between the Braves and Purple Aces this season, as the Aces are one of two teams the Braves will play once, with the MVC scheduling two "one-time" opponents for each school.
About the Braves
The Braves will be looking to bounce back after a home loss to the Belmont Bruins, 80-77. Bradley should feel confident, as the Braves own one of the best road records in the MVC with five road victories so far this season. The BU offense was also strong in their last matchup with Belmont, connecting on 14 of 29 three-pointers and shooting 52% from the field. Almar Atlason also reminded teams of how dangerous he can be with a career day against the Bruins, recording a career-high 28 points and 2 blocks. Atlason made 11 of his 15 total shots, including six from three-point range. The Braves still rank highly among the nation's best three-point shooters with a team percentage of 40.2%, which is good enough for 1st in the MVC and 2nd in the NCAA. A long-standing record will also be tied tomorrow as Darius Hannah will match the Bradley record for most games played in a career once he checks in for his 140th game, tying Gene Melchiorre who played from 1947-1951.
About the Aces
Evansville is coming off a 68-59 loss to Southern Illinois after winning three straight games against Murray State, Valparaiso, and Belmont. The Aces are coached by David Ragland, who is in his third season at the helm with a career record of 31-60. On the floor, the Aces are led by Gabriel Pozzato, who averages 16 PPG and 4.1 RPG while shooting 47%, and Tayshawn Comer, who averages 15.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and shoots 39% from the floor. Defensively, the Aces are tough in the passing lanes and make things difficult for opposing offenses with 6.5 steals per game, ranking third in the MVC, one spot behind Bradley's 7.1 steals per game.
The game will be available to view on CBS Sports Network with tipoff coming at 7:00 PM CST.
