Game Recap: Baseball | | Allison Novak

March 7-9, 2025 | Huntington, W.Va. | Jack Cook Field

The Bradley Braves continued their 2025 season with a three-game road series against Marshall. Despite solid individual performances and moments of promise, the Braves were unable to break through, dropping all three games to the Thundering Herd.

Game 1: Marshall 6, Bradley 2

In the series opener, Bradley struck early with a run in the first inning but couldn't maintain the momentum, eventually falling 6-2. The Braves managed only four hits, with Mason Breidenbach leading the way with two hits. Bobby Atkinson drove in one of Bradley's two runs. Despite a solid effort on the mound, the Braves' pitching staff allowed six runs on six hits while walking six.

  • Top Performer: Mason Breidenbach (2-for-4)

  • Bradley Offense: 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks

  • Pitching Struggles: 6 runs allowed, 6 walks, 7 strikeouts

Game 2: Marshall 11, Bradley 6

The second game featured a more potent Bradley offense, as the Braves put up six runs on eight hits. Freshman CJ Trask shined with a 2-for-5 performance, including a triple, a home run, and three RBIs. Bobby Atkinson added an RBI and a hit. However, Marshall's bats stayed hot, scoring 11 runs on 12 hits, taking advantage of eight walks by Bradley's pitching staff.

  • Top Performer: CJ Trask (2-for-5, HR, 3B, 3 RBI)

  • Bradley Offense: 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 walks

  • Pitching Woes: 11 runs allowed, 8 walks, 2 wild pitches

Game 3: Marshall 7, Bradley 2

In the series finale, Bradley again started strong, scoring a run in each of the first two innings. Beau Durbin led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and a run scored, while Bobby Atkinson added a triple and an RBI. Despite out-hitting Marshall 8-7, the Braves couldn't string together enough hits to capitalize, falling 7-2.

  • Top Performer: Beau Durbin (2-for-4, 1 R)

  • Bradley Offense: 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk

  • Mound Struggles: 7 runs allowed, 5 walks, 2 home runs surrendered

Looking Ahead

The Braves will look to regroup as they continue their non-conference slate. Strong individual performances from CJ Trask and Beau Durbin provide a bright spot, but consistency on the mound remains a key focus. Bradley returns to action next weekend as they aim to get back on track and build momentum before conference play begins.
