MANHATTAN, Kan. – Bradley Men's Golf scored 291 in the final round of the Wildcat Invitational to finish tied for ninth in the season's opening meet.
The Kansas State tournament was hampered by foul weather, making for wet and windy conditions. The first round was delayed from an 8:30 a.m. start to 11:00 a.m., subsequently delaying the second round as well. Due to the late start, the second round was suspended due to darkness. Day two saw more weather impact play, as golfing did not begin until 10:30 a.m. after a scheduled 8:00 a.m. start.
Once the weather settled, the Braves golfed at their best. Bradley fired a three-over-par 291 in the tournament's final round, tied for the fourth-lowest round score in the third round. Junior
Carter Stevenson and graduate student
Weston Walker each golfed three-under-par 69s to lead the charge, while freshmen
Joey Cerney and
Brogan Smith fired 76 and 77, respectively.
Individually, Stevenson's final round allowed him to finish tied for 20th, marking the 13th time he has finished 20th or better in his career. Additionally, his final round was his 11th career round under 70, bringing him into a tie for second all-time with current assistant coach
Ethan Brue. Stevenson scored 76 in round one for his 45th consecutive round of 70 or better to officially set the program record for consecutive sub-80 rounds.
Walker's final round saw him jump 24 positions and finish tied for 39th, while freshman
Joey Cerney golfed three rounds of 76 to finish in the top 50.
UPDATE (9/11): Two players were disqualified for signing incorrect scorecards. All players' finishing position been improved by one position with the exception of Tanner Leonard, who has improved two positions.
