Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball extended their win streak to three on Friday after defeating the Evansville Purple Aces 79-68.
A Close First Half
The Braves took control early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead and later going on a six-point run to establish a nine-point lead. Evansville fought back with a six-point run of their own to cut the deficit to five, but Bradley still held a 21-16 lead heading into the second quarter. Both teams exchanged baskets early to start the second quarter, but an eight-point run from the Purple Aces gave them their first lead of the day. The Braves fought back with a seven-point run, but Evansville wouldn't go away, scoring eight of the final 10 points in the half to cut the Braves' lead to one. Bradley went into halftime leading 37-36.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Ellie McDermid was named the Ameren Illinois Player of the Game after setting career highs in points and three-pointers made. She finished the day with 20 points on 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Kaylen Nelson recorded her first career double-double, totaling 24 points, a career-high 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Maya Foz added another impressive achievement to her freshman campaign. She also recorded her first career double-double, posting 12 points, 10 rebounds, and an assist.
Running Away with the Win
Both teams kept it close to begin the second half, exchanging baskets until the score was tied at 45. The Braves then went on a nine-point run, and despite Evansville's best efforts, Bradley held that lead for the remainder of the third quarter, taking a 62-53 lead into the final 10 minutes. The Purple Aces tried to fight back, cutting the lead to five, but Bradley held firm, showcasing one of their best defensive quarters of the season. Nelson nailed all six of her free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game to put the game out of reach, giving Bradley a 79-68 win.
Defensive Notes
The Braves had a defensive masterclass in the fourth quarter, holding the Purple Aces to 1-for-10 from beyond the arc and 6-for-17 from the field to ice the game. For the game, Bradley held Evansville to 27-for-58 from the field and 6-for-19 from three-point range. The Braves controlled the boards, outrebounding the Purple Aces 44-29, including 19 offensive rebounds that led to 20 second-chance points. Bradley also scored 14 points off 13 Purple Aces turnovers, while Evansville scored eight points off Bradley's 10 turnovers.
