Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball rallied to defeat the second-place Belmont Bruins on Sunday, 51-47, in their annual Be Bold, Go Gold game.

Falling Behind and Battling Back

The Bruins began the game with a nine-point run, but the Braves quickly responded with six of their own to bring the game within one possession. Belmont hit a free throw and a three-pointer to extend their lead to seven and take a 13-6 lead into the second quarter. Bradley came out firing in the second quarter, going on an 11-point run to take a 17-13 lead. The Braves and Bruins went back and forth before Bradley went on a five-point run late in the second quarter and entered halftime with a 24-18 lead.

Standout Performances for Bradley

Kaylen Nelson led the team with 19 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field, along with eight rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Maya Foz hit double-digit points for her 20th straight game, totaling 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Tamia Perryman had a strong day, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

A Rough Second Half

The Bruins went on a similar run to the start of their game, scoring seven straight points to take a one-point lead. The Braves responded with a seven-point run to regain their six-point lead, and after exchanging baskets with the Bruins, they took a 35-29 lead into the final 10 minutes of the game. Bradley opened the fourth quarter with six of the first eight points before the Bruins hit two three-pointers to cut the deficit to three. Bradley responded with a five-point run before Belmont cut the deficit to two with a six-point run. Both teams exchanged free throws, and Bradley held onto the lead to take the 51-47 win.

Defensive Notes

The Braves held their opponents to fewer than 50 points for the seventh time this season. Additionally, Bradley held Belmont to 14-for-50 from the field and 5-for-21 from three-point range. The Braves forced 17 Belmont turnovers and made them pay for those mistakes by scoring 15 points off the Bruins' turnovers. The second quarter may have been the Braves' best defensive quarter of the season, as they held Belmont to 1-for-13 from the field and 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Coming Up…

The Braves will travel to Chicago on Thursday, February 26, as they take on the UIC Flames at 11 a.m. for their only game of the week.
