Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball extended their home winning streak to 11 with a dominant 69-47 win over the Northern Iowa Panthers on Thursday.
A Dominant First Half
The Braves and Panthers exchanged early baskets to tie the game at 4 before Bradley went on a 10-point run. UNI and Bradley each scored once more before the opening 10 minutes ended, giving the Braves a 16-6 lead heading into the second quarter. The Braves and Panthers continued a back-and-forth run to open the second quarter until Bradley went on a seven-point run to end the first half with a 32-15 lead. Maya Foz led the way for the Braves early, scoring 11 first-half points.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Foz finished her strong day with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Micah Cooper had a huge breakout game, setting new career highs with 15 points and seven rebounds while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Mya Wardle had a tremendous game, setting a new career high with 16 points on 4-for-5 shooting from three-point range, while totaling two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Ellie McDermid contributed across the stat sheet, finishing with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and one steal.
Finishing a Defensive Masterclass
UNI came out with a mission to close the deficit, scoring 15 of the first 22 points in the third quarter to bring the game within nine. However, the Braves scored 12 of the next 17 to give themselves a 49-35 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Both teams exchanged a three-pointer and a jumper before the Braves went on a 10-point run to extend their lead to 24. Both teams continued to trade baskets for the remaining three minutes of the game, but Bradley took the win, 69-47.
Defensive Notes
This game was the sixth time this season that Bradley held their opponents to less than 50 points this season (Judson, Bellarmine, Valparaiso twice, Southern Illinois). The Braves did an excellent job of cutting down on the Panthers' scoring opportunities, forcing them to go 17-for-52 from the field and 6-for-23 from beyond the arc. Bradley outrebounded UNI 38-33, forced five more turnovers than they committed, and punished the Panthers for their mistakes, scoring 16 points off UNI's turnovers.
