CARBONDALE, IL – The Bradley Braves Softball team put on its best offensive performance of the weekend, but came up just shy against the Salukis. They fell to Southern Illinois 7-5.
The Braves put the Salukis on notice at the top of the first, as four runners reached the base paths. With two on, senior
Austin Comstock singled to right to score senior
Brynna Seitz from second. The following at bat, sophomore
Olivia Turner hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score senior
Ashley Breeding from third. The top of the first ended with a 2-0 lead, after the inning was complete the Braves still held the 2-1 start.
The Braves started to claw back in the sixth inning, scoring three runs. The first to cross home was Comstock, driven in by a double to right center by junior
Hilary Wilson. Sophomore
Morgan Schlosser followed Wilson's double with an error by the left fielder, allowing both Wilson and freshman pinch runner
Kelsey Martin to score. The Braves ended the top of the sixth trailing 7-5.
Comstock ended the game with a pair of hits, as the Braves notched eight on the day, compared to the SIU nine. Sophomore
Abby Rusher tossed the first five innings for Bradley, with freshman
Gianna Hillegonds entering in the sixth and throwing a clean frame.

The Braves will have a break in Valley play as they travel to St. Charles, MO to face Lindenwood on Wednesday, March 18th, for a doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
