PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley Baseball dropped their weekday game to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Tuesday, 21-8.
Keeping it Close Early
Iowa opened the game with four straight walks to score first and proceeded to score four more runs to take a 5-0 lead before the Braves had a chance to bat. Bradley responded in the bottom half of the inning when Anthony Martinez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and then Michael Quick cleared the bases with a grand slam to tie the game at 5-5.
The Hawkeyes regained the lead in the second with a two-run homer and added five more runs to make it 12-5. Iowa extended their lead with one run in the third inning and two in the fourth to make it 16-5.
Bradley began to show signs of life in the fifth with Sohrab Rezaei's sacrifice fly, Quick's RBI single, and a wild pitch that allowed Martinez to score. The Hawkeyes put a stop to the late rally, scoring three runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh to take a 21-8 win via run-rule.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Michael Quick had a phenomenal day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, five RBI, and a run scored. Landon Lowe also had a perfect day, hitting 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a hit by pitch, and two runs scored. Hayden Miller went 1-for-3 with a double, a hit by pitch, and one run scored. Jaxon Schumacher was 1-for-2 with two walks.
On the Mound
Joey Cirelli took the loss in today's game, pitching one inning and allowing two runs on four hits. Andre Vidal threw 1.1 scoreless innings while yielding one walk. Eli Lehrman gave up one run on three hits and one walk over 1.1 innings pitched with one strikeout.
Joey Nerat led the Hawkeyes, hitting 4-for-5, including two triples, a hit by pitch, a stolen base, two RBI, and four runs scored. On the mound, Logan Runde was lights out, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing no hits, one hit by pitch, and striking out one.
