At  Benet Academy
Whelan earned his varsity letters in 2012, 2013, and 2014.His individual awawrds and accomplishments consist of ESCC all-conference selection in 2013 and 2014. Runner up for conference player of the year in 2014. 2014 ESCC offensive player of the year. IHSBCA all-state selection in 2014. Daily Herald all-area selection, Naperville Sun all-area selection. Senior Year stats: hit .434, with 16 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 26 RBI, while striking out only 10 times.
