Academics & Student Development: Academic Support

Academics & Student Development Program

The Bradley Athletics Academics and Student Development program consists of Academic Support Services and B.O.L.D. for Life.  The goal of the Academics and Student Development program is to aid student-athletes in their personal growth by providing individualized support services and leadership opportunities.  Students will be challenged to maximize their potential en route to earning their degree at Bradley and achieving success beyond graduation.

Academic Support Services

Technology
Student-athletes have access to the latest technology in the Academic Study Room, which includes multiple computers with updated software programs.  In addition, students can request audiotaping of classes and check out laptops for road trips so they are able to keep up with their studies while traveling for competition.  Student-athletes have access to free printing through 15 printer-released stations located across campus.

Advising/Registration
Student-athletes have priority registration to ensure placement in required courses and appropriate completion of NCAA Progress Toward Degree Requirements.   Each semester, students meet with major advisors, who work collaboratively with Athletic Academic Staff through the advising process.  Athletic Academic Coordinators also serve as the major advisors for students enrolled in the Academic Exploration Program.

Academic Monitoring
Progress reports are sent to instructors twice each semester for all new students (including transfers) and students enrolled in study hall through the secure Navigate system.  Athletic Academic Staff and coaches have instant access to instructor feedback and work with students to address any needs or concerns.

Organization/Time Management
Each Student-Athlete receives a personalized academic planner, compliments of the Varsity Club. The Athletic Academic Staff aid in continual time management, study skills, and organization.  One-on-one meetings with the academic staff are also offered as needed to keep up with class progress, grades received and any special needs.  In addition, proctoring of exams is available for student-athletes who miss assessments due to travel for competition.

Study Hall
Coaches, in consultation with the academic staff, determine the required number of study hall hours for students each week.  Study hall hours during day and night allow for flexibility for student-athletes while studying in a quiet, monitored environment. The academic staff tracks the time through the Navigate system and sends coaches detailed weekly study hall information.

Tutoring
Student-athletes have access to free, unlimited, individual peer tutoring through the campus Tutor Matching System (TMS).  All one-on-one peer tutoring for student-athletes is funded by the Varsity Club and other generous donors.  In addition to the individual help, various departments offer free walk-in group tutoring, and the Academic Success Center (ASC) offers learning communities for select courses to assist students with applying study skills within the discipline, to learn how to effectively conduct study sessions, and to review course content.  The ASC also offers academic coaching and student success workshops to give students the tolls they need to be academically successful.
