Matt Sprague is in his second season as Assistant Volleyball Coach after arriving at Bradley in July 2018 and the 2019 season will mark his sixth year of coaching at the collegiate level.
During his first year on the Bradley bench, the Braves posted the second-best win improvement in the nation. In fact, Bradley capped a 24-9 season with the first postseason appearance in program history with the Braves reaching the second round of the NIVC after a five-set victory over Bowling Green. The 2018 season marked Bradley’s most wins and best MVC finish (third) since 2001 and also included a trio of All-MVC performers along with the 2018 MVC Freshman of the Year.Â

Sprague came to The Hilltop after spending the previous year as a Recruiting Specialist at Next College Student Athlete on the heels of a three-year stint as an assistant coach at Northern Illinois. While in DeKalb, Ill., he helped the Huskies to a 65-27 (.707) overall record and even more impressive 43-5 (.896) mark in Mid-American Conference action.
Â
A Ballwin, Mo., native, Sprague helped mentor an honorable mention All-American, a total of four AVCA All-Midwest Region honorees, a pair of MAC Player of the Year honorees and nine First-Team All-MAC selections during his three years at NIU.Â
Â
During Sprague’s time with the Huskies, Northern Illinois won three consecutive MAC Division titles in addition to the 2016 Mid-American Conference Tournament to culminate what was a 25-6 season with the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in five seasons.Â
Â
Sprague ventured into the collegiate coaching realm as a volunteer assistant at Saint Louis in 2013. In his lone season with the Billikens he helped mentor SLU to a three-game overall improvement from 2012, which included a five-game improvement in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Saint Louis earned the #4 seed in the 2013 A10 Tournament after failing to make the league tournament the previous fall.Â
Â
Prior to his time at Saint Louis, Sprague served as head coach of the High Performance STL Volleyball Club’s Boys 15-2 team. He led his squad to a national qualifier win in addition to assisting with the club’s Girls 18-1 squad as an assistant coach.Â

An outside hitter at Ball State, Sprague was a two-time team captain for the Cardinals and concluded his collegiate career with 454 kills and 339 digs. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 2010.Â
