Marc Wagner

Marc Wagner, who boasts 10 years experience as a college baseball assistant at the junior college and NCAA Division I levels, joined the Bradley staff as the team’s top assistant coach in July 2004 and has helped the Braves climb the Missouri Valley Conference standings in his first three years.

During his first three years on the staff, Wagner has helped the Braves to an 86-74 record and three straight trips to the State Farm MVC Tournament.  This past season, Bradley rode a program-record nine-game Valley winning streak to an overall 32-21 record and third-place finishes in both the MVC regular-season race and postseason tournament.  As the team’s hitting instructor, Wager also mentored former Braves infielder Ryan Curry, who won the 2007 MVC batting title with a modern school-record .416 season batting average.

In his first year on the Bradley staff in 2005, Wagner helped the Braves to a 28-22 overall record and a spot in the six-team MVC Tournament for the first time since 1999.  And in Wagner’s second year in 2006, Bradley led The Valley race for three weeks and won its first two MVC Tournament games since 1996.

Wagner came to Bradley from Odessa (Texas) College, where he helped the Wranglers to the regional tournament in his only season with the program.

Prior to his one year at Odessa, Wagner was an assistant coach at Morehead State University from 2001 to 2003.  Among his duties at Morehead State, Wagner served as the hitting instructor, infield coach, third base coach and recruiting coordinator for the Ohio Valley Conference program.  During the 2002 season, Morehead State led the nation with 127 home runs and 2.27 home runs per game.  The 2002 Eagles also ranked second nationally in slugging percentage and sixth in both scoring average and team batting average, while setting eight Ohio Valley Conference team records and 15 school individual and team offensive marks.

Wagner began his college coaching career in 1996 as an assistant at Mendocino Community College in Ukiah, Calif., and immediately helped the team to a 34-9 record and the Bay Valley Conference championship.  He left California for Fort Collins, Colo., however, where he was a teacher and baseball coach at Rocky Mountain High School from 1997 until returning to Mendocino C.C. in 1999.  In his first season back at Mendocino, Wagner helped the Eagles to a 30-15 overall record and a trip to the Northern California regional finals.

Wagner, 34, graduated magna cum laude from Abilene Christian University in 1995 with a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies and an emphasis in political science and communications.

Wagner and his wife, Stacy, have two children:  Brooks (6) and Alexis (4).
