Of the seven scoring plays involving Mentgen during his sophomore season in 2005, five resulted in game-winning strikes, including his assist Nov. 5 at Missouri State to help the Braves secure the Valley regular-season crown ... The 2003 Peoria Journal Star area co-player of the year, Mentgen led Notre Dame High School to the semifinals of four consecutive Illinois High School Association Class A state tournaments ... After scoring 60 points on 21 goals and 18 assists as a junior, Mentgen improved upon those numbers in 2003 by tallying 73 points on 26 goals and 21 assists as a senior ... Finished his four-year career with 229 points on 79 goals and 69 assists.
Club Soccer
Made the commute to Chicago to play for the Chicago Magic Soccer Club and was a starting forward for the 2003 U-17 boys USYSA national championship squad ... Mentgen also played for the Illinois Olympic Development Program team for three years, helping his team to regional championships in 2001 and 2002 ... Qualified for the ODP regional team in 2004.
PDL Experience
Mentgen has ventured west the last two summers to play in the Premier Development League: during the 2006 season with the Ogden (Utah) Outlaws and this past summer for the Sioux Falls (S.D.) SpitFire ... Recorded one assist in eight games with the SpitFire.
