PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Marcellus Sommerville posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds and two other Bradley players scored in double figures as the Bradley men's basketball team defeated Pepperdine 76-58 Saturday night at Carver Arena.

The Braves (6-1 overall) never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early eight-point lead, before Pepperdine used a 9-1 run to tie the game at 11-11. Sommerville hit back-to-back three-pointers to help spark a 17-7 Bradley run as he posted 12 points and eight rebounds in the first half, helping the Braves to a 35-28 lead at the break.

The Waves (7-3 overall) cut the Bradley lead to five points in the opening minutes of the second half but would get no closer, as the Braves used a 15-5 spurt to push their lead to 50-35 with 14:37 to play. Freshman guard Daniel Ruffin scored seven of his 17 points during the run.

Bradley held off any attempts at a Pepperdine rally, extending the lead to as many as 22 points when Lawrence Wright made a jumper with 7:10 remaining to cap a 14-5 run that put the Braves ahead 64-42.

Sommerville finished with team highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while hitting 7-of-14 shots from the field. Ruffin had a season-high 17 points to go along with six assists and three steals, while hitting 7-of-11 shots. Wright added 15 points in just 16 minutes off the bench, helping the Braves bench outscore the Waves reserves 25-14.

Bradley pulled down a season-high 47 rebounds and outrebounded Pepperdine 47-40, while also committing a season-low 15 turnovers.

Glen McGowan led Pepperdine with 18 points and 12 boards. The Waves committed just 13 turnovers in the game, but shot 34.0 percent from the field and just 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from three-point range. Bradley was whistled for a total of 27 fouls compared to just 18 for Pepperdine, but the Waves failed to capitalize, making just 19-of-34 free throw attempts (55.9 percent).

Bradley returns to action Tuesday when the Braves play host to Samford at 7:05 p.m. at Carver Arena.
