Libby Magnuson posted her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists to help the Bradley reserves score 42 points, but Creighton proved to be too much for the Braves as the Bluejays defeated the Braves 79-68 Saturday afternoon at Robertson Memorial Field House.
Bradley (4-7 overall, 0-2 MVC) committed a season-low 12 turnovers and tied a season-high with 12 steals, but struggled from long range hitting just 2-of-13 three-point attempts and shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the free throw line.
The Braves went scoreless for the first 3:59 of the game, before junior Erika Nelson made a pair of free throws. Bradley missed its first seven shots from the field and was 2-for-12 at one point as Creighton jumped out to a 25-7 lead with 9:40 to play in the first half.
Freshman Kelly Krumwiede helped key a 10-0 Bradley run, scoring six consecutive points to help the Braves pull back to within eight points (25-17) with 5:25 before the half. The Bluejays came alive in the closing minutes of the half, however, scoring 18 points in the final 5:12 of the half to take a 43-27 lead into the break.
Creighton started the second half just as they ended the first, going on a 10-2 run in the first 3:38 of the second period to push the lead to 53-29. The Bluejays held a 69-48 lead with just under six minutes to play before the Braves made a late push, using an 11-1 run to pull to within 11 points at 70-59 with 3:44 to play. Creighton held Bradley to just four points in the next 2:30 of play to end the Braves run. Bradley trimmed the lead to 10 points (73-63) with 50 seconds remaining, but would get no closer as the Bluejays scored six points in the final 40 seconds to finish off the 79-68 victory.
Magnuson helped highlight the second-half comeback effort, scoring 12 points and dishing out seven assists in the final half of play. She finished with career highs of 14 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in a career most 30 minutes of play. She also matched career bests with one blocked shot and two steals.
Six different Braves scored seven or more points, including four off the bench. Bradley's reserves combined for 42 of the team's 68 points on the day as leading scorers Devyn Flanagan and Amy Peters were limited to a combined two points. Freshman Kelly Krumwiede and senior Molly Hartke both added 10 points off the bench, while senior Alex Liberatore scored a season-best eight points on 4-of-5 shooting. Junior Jen Brown had nine points, three assists and two steals and junior Ashley Chelleen chipped in eight points on 4-of-7 from the field.
Creighton (4-7 overall, 2-0 MVC) had four players reach double figures in scoring, with senior Angie Janis posting a game-high 18 points. The Bluejays hit a season-high 10 three-pointers, shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
