PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley Baseball program has announced plans for a reunion of all of the student-athletes who played for former coach Leo Schrall to coincide with the Missouri Valley Conference series versus Northern Iowa May 5-7 at O'Brien Field.

Schrall was the head coach at Bradley from 1949 through 1972, compiling a 346-188-3 (.647) all-time record while also directing the Braves to a total of 13 Missouri Valley Conference regular-season (seven) and tournament (six) championships, as well as two appearances in the NCAA College World Series.

As part of a special ceremony before the May 6 game against the Panthers, Schrall's 1956 team will be recognized for the 50th anniversary of its College World Series season. The 1956 Braves compiled a 24-8 overall record, shared the MVC regular-season title with Oklahoma A&M, beat the Cowboys in a best-of-three series for the league title and finished third at the College World Series with a 2-2 record.

All of Schrall's former players will be invited to attend the May 5 game against UNI, free of charge, at O'Brien Field. The players then will gather for a reunion luncheon May 6 at the Michel Student Center, followed by a special dedication of a historical marker on the Bradley campus (a marker in the shape of home plate will be placed at the very location of home plate of the old Bradley Field). Prior to the May 6 game at O'Brien Field, all of Schrall's former players in attendance will be introduced and Schrall's uniform No. 2 will be formally retired.

The May 7 series finale versus Northern Iowa will be Senior Day and five current Bradley seniors -- first baseman Jason Newburger and pitchers Peter Elmer, Brandon Magee, Jonathan Stasiek and Collin Walker -- will be honored in a traditional pregame ceremony. A sixth senior, outfielder Justin Carr, is redshirting this year after breaking his hand three games into the season and is expected to return next year.
