Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley (20-19) ended its four-game losing streak in convincing fashion Wednesday, pounding NCAA Division III MacMurray College (8-19) 20-1 in seven innings at O'Brien Field.
Ten of the 12 Bradley hitters to stand in against three MacMurray pitchers got at least one base hit, led by freshman Curtis Hornaday, who went 4-for-5 in his first career start. Freshman Dan Brewer also had a big day, falling a single shy of hitting for the cycle in a 3-for-5, four RBI performance. Brewer hit a run-scoring triple in the first, a double off the left field wall in the third and a three-run home run in the sixth. He nearly beat out an infield single in his final at-bat to end the sixth.
Freshman Bryan Porter (1-0) earned his first career victory by tossing the first six innings Wednesday. Porter did not allow a hit in the first three innings, although three straight walks to open the third allowed MacMurray to drive home its only run on a John Hawley sacrifice fly. Porter scattered five singles and struck out five. Senior Jonahthan Stasiek worked the seventh inning in scorless fashion before the game was called due to the run-rule.
Bradley will resume its Missouri Valley Conference schedule this weekend by hosting Missouri State in a 3-game series at O'Brien Field. The Braves enter the weekend in first place in the Valley standings with a 9-6 league record, tied with Wichita State, but only 1.5 games ahead of the fifth-place Bears (20-17, 6-6). The series is scheduled to begin with a 6 p.m. contest Friday and conclude with noon games Saturday and Sunday.
