PEORIA, Ill ? Freshman Rob Scahill (3-5) struck out seven in seven strong innings and two Bradley relievers helped keep Eastern Illinois (28-22) off the board as the Braves (24-26) won their final home game of the season Tuesday, dropping the Panthers, 8-0, at O'Brien Field.

Scahill allowed only three singles and did not walk a batter as the starter in Bradley's seventh shutout win of the season.  Regular weekend starter Collin Walker worked a scoreless eighth inning and senior Jonathan Stasiek closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Senior third baseman Jason Newburger and freshman second baseman Dan Brewer did the majority of the offensive damage for the Braves Tuesday.  Newburger was 3-for-3 with a 2-run single in the third inning.  Brewer was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored an a run batted in.

Brewer scored what proved to be the winning run in the second inning by doubling into the right centerfield gap, taking third base on a wild pitch and scoring on a passed ball.  Newburger pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third inning with his 2-run single, a blooper down the right field line.

Centerfielder Brad Jones hit a similar ball in the fourth inning with the bases loaded to drive home two more runs.  Pat Ryerson added a run-scoring ground out in the fourth to push the lead to 6-0.  Brewer followed Newburger's double to lead off the fifth with his second two-bagger of the game, then came around to score the final run on Mike McMillan's two-out single into left field.

After wrapping up its non-conference schedule Tuesday, Bradley will complete the regular season later this week with a 3-game Missouri Valley Conference series at Evansville.  The Braves and Purple Aces will play single games at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and will conclude the series with a 1 p.m. game Saturday.

Both Bradley and Evansville have secured spots in the six-team ConAgra Foods MVC Tournament, but the Purple Aces are still in the fight for the regular-season Valley title.  Bradley can finish anywhere from second to sixth in the final league standings.
