Box Score
PEORIA, Ill. --
Northern Iowa pitcher Aaron Jenkins (3-0) threw an abbreviated, 1-hit shutout and Brett Douglass went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in, leading the Panthers to a 10-0 victory versus Bradley (22-22, 11-9) in a Missouri Valley Conference baseball game limited to seven innings by the league's 10-run rule.
UNI (23-24, 7-11) spoiled Bradley's Senior Day by plating four unearned runs against Braves senior starter Collin Walker (1-5) in the first inning. Designated hitter Nick Cameron delivered the big blow in the first by lofting a 3-run home run to left field. Douglas, who started the scoring with an RBI single to right field in front of Cameron's home run, added a leadoff double in the fourth, a two-run single in the fifth and another run-scoring single in the seventh.
With his offense providing plenty of support, Jenkins surrendered a one-out single to Brock Luxmore in the first then worked himself in and out of trouble the rest of the game. Jenkins walked six, including two in the fifth and three in the sixth, but he also fanned seven Bradley hitters to keep the Braves off the scoreboard.
Bradley did not get a runner into scoring position until the fifth inning when Jenkins walked Dan Brewer with one out and John Lequia with two outs, but got second baseman Zach Norris to line out to end the threat. In the sixth inning, Jennings walked Luxmore and Ryan Curry with one out and Jason Newburger with two outs to load the bases, but induced a soft liner to shortstop by Dan Brewer to keep the shutout intact.
Bradley will play six non-conference games before completing the 2006 regular-season schedule with a 3-game set at Evansville May 17-19. The Braves will host Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at O'Brien Field. The second game of the twinbill versus the Panthers will be the 1500th game in Dewey Kalmer's 27 seasons as the head coach at Bradley.
