PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley Baseball continued its hot run down the stretch, extending its winning streak to 10 games and its Missouri Valley Conference streak to nine in a row with a 6-2 victory against Evansville (32-21, 12-11) Saturday night at O'Brien Field.

Junior righthander Jon Goebel improved to 3-1 by allowing an unearned run on five hits in his seven strong innings and freshman right-hander Brad Altbach tied the school single-season record with his fifth save, despite allowing an unearned run in the ninth.  Both shortstop Dan Brewer and left fielder Justin Carr went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Bradley's 11-hit attack as the Braves (29-16, 12-8) improved to 14-1 in its last 15 games.  The Braves also clinched a spot on the six-team Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in two weeks at Missouri State.

Forced to come from behind for nine of the previous 13 wins, Bradley played from in front Saturday, scoring once in the first, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead.  Brewer, who added a career-best three stolen bases to his 3-hit effort, led off the first with a single, stole second and eventually scored on Ryan Curry's sacrifice fly.  Paul Rice led off the fourth with a single, stole second and scored when Curry and Carr followed with consecutive singles.  In the fifth, designated hitter Jason Acevedo drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on Brad Jones' team-leading 11th sacrifice bunt of the year.  Pat Ryerson replaced Acevedo at second and scored on Brewer's single to right center.

While Bradley was coming through with the timely hits early in the game, Evansville failed to capitalize against Goebel.  The Aces had base hits in each of the first five innings, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position through the first five innings.

Ironically, the Aces scored their first run in the sixth inning without the benefit of a hit.  Catcher Kirk Bacsu was hit by a Goebel offering to start the sixth, then went to second when Goebel's pickoff attempt ended up in the seats.  Pat Tumility moved Bacsu to third with a ground ball to second and Robbie Minor followed with a grounder to shortstop to pull Evansville within 3-1.

Bradley got the run right back in the bottom of the sixth.  After Curry opened the frame with a single, Carr drove a fly ball deep into the right centerfield gap.  With rightfielder Pat Tumilty closing in, centerfielder Jim Viscomi tried to make a basket catch on the run, but the ball popped out of his glove for an RBI double.

After Altbach relieved Goebel to start the eighth and retired the Aces in order, Bradley gave him some insurance by adding two more runs on Mike McMillan's RBI double and Peter Malinowski's pinch-hit single.

Evansville pushed across an unearned run in the ninth Minor scored from third on a passed ball.  The Aces shortstop, who went 2-for-4 at the plate, singled with one out, stole second and went to third on Troy Krider's ground out.

Having honored former Brave and current pitching coach Mike Dunne in a pregame ceremony to retire his number Friday and paying tribute to head coach Dewey Kalmer's 1,000th win in a pregame ceremony Saturday, Bradley will hold a third pregame tribute for the team's seven seniors before Sunday's 1 p.m. home finale at O'Brien Field.  The first 200 mothers in attendance also will receive a flower, courtesy of Leo's Flowers, while YMCA and YWCA members may receive free admission as part of the final “Y” Family Day promotion.
