Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ? Northern Iowa collected 16 hits and scored 14 runs as the Panthers defeated Bradley 14-5 Saturday to conclude the regular season for the Braves at Riverfront Stadium. The Braves concluded the regular-season with a 30-19 overall record and finished in a three-way tie with Evansville and Southern Illinois for third in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 13-11 league mark.
UNI (23-28 overall, 8-16 MVC) roughed up the Bradley pitching staff with 16 hits, including 14 in the first five innings of the game and left only four runners on base in the 14-5 victory as the Panthers took the series two games to one.
Bradley managed just one hit off UNI starter Guido Fonseca, who struck out four and walked one in six innings of work.
Deric Manrique led the Panthers offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with two homers and five RBI. Boone Bugger had an RBI double and Manrique ripped a three-run homer to put the finishing touches on a four run second inning for UNI.
A seven-run third inning for UNI pushed the lead to 11-0. Jeremy Weih hit a two-run homer and Eric Hoffman added a two-run single to help highlight the seven-run frame.
Curt Bradley had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning and Manrique followed with a two-run homer to cap the scoring for UNI and help the Panthers to a 14-0 lead.
Bradley finally got on the board in the top of the seventh inning. Pat Ryerson drove in the first run of the game for the Braves with a bases loaded groundout to score Adam Kimble. Bryan Porter followed with a single up the middle that plated Jason Acevedo and Andrew Eggers. Sophomore Dan Brewer belted his team-leading eighth home run of the year, with a two run shot to cut the UNI lead to 14-5.
Porter finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored to help highlight Bradley's offensive efforts.
Bradley returns to action Wednesday at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Braves face defending champion and fourth-seeded Evansville (34-21 overall, 13-11 MVC) at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.
