Braves Fall In Three To #11 Wichita State

PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley couldn't keep up with a high-powered Wichita State offense Friday as the 11th-ranked and league-leading Shockers swept the Braves 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action at the Markin Family Student Recreation Center.

Wichita State (27-0 overall, 16-0 MVC) hit .341 in the match, while limiting Bradley (5-24 overall, 1-14 MVC) to an .079 attack percentage in the three-set match.

The Shockers got off to a quick start, boasting a .480 attack percentage in the opening set. The Braves trailed 15-11 when Wichita State capitalized on six Bradley errors during an 8-1 Shocker spurt to push the score to 23-12. After a WSU service error the teams traded kills before Emily Stockman closed out the first set with a kill to give the Shockers a 25-14 win.

Katie Niggemeyer provided a boost for Wichita State in the second set to help the Shockers pull away. WSU held an 11-6 lead when Niggemeyer recorded a pair of kills and a block to highlight a 6-1 spurt which extended the Shockers' lead to 17-7. The Braves would cut the Wichita State lead to eight points, but would run out of time as the Shockers claimed the second set by the score to 25-16.

The Braves turned in their best offensive set of the night in the third set, hitting .267 as a team. Wichita State countered with a .385 attack percentage and closed out the match with a 25-17 victory. Bradley trailed 9-6 when a pair of Stockman kills highlighted a 5-1 Shocker run. Wichita State would push the lead to to as many as eight points and pushed their win streak to a school-record 27 consecutive wins with the victory.

Sophomore Caitlin Staib (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) led Bradley with seven kills, while junior Amy Reichel (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) provided a boost off the bench with six kills in just two sets. Freshman Rachelle Dejean (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) tallied a team-best 10 digs.

Stockman paced the Shockers with 13 kills and was one of four Shockers to hit .350 or better. Senior libero Kelly Broussard turned in a match-high 14 digs and broke the MVC career digs record mid-way through the second set.

Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves play host to Missouri State in the final home match of the year. First serve at the Markin Family Student Recreation Center is set for 7 p.m. Seniors Sam Black and Katrina Goncher will be honored prior to the match.
