PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley sophomore center Will Egolf (Juneau, Alaska/Douglas H.S.), who had earned his first three career starts in the last three games, will miss the remainder of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, head coach Jim Les announced today. An MRI exam Sunday afternoon confirmed the injury and Egolf is expected to have season-ending surgery next week.
Egolf sustained the injury Saturday night when he caught a pass on the baseline and began to spin toward the basket with 10:02 remaining in Bradley's 82-69 victory against East Tennessee State. Having played in five of Bradley's first six games, Egolf is eligible to receive a medical redshirt and retain three full years of eligibility.
In his five games this season, Egolf was averaging 4.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He took over as the starter Tuesday at Florida Gulf Coast and helped the Braves to three consecutive wins. The 6-foot-9 center scored at least six points in each of his three starts, averaging 6.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots in his 19.3 minutes per game as a starter. He played a career-best 20 minutes before sustaining the injury Saturday night, finishing with six points, one rebound, an assist, a blocked shot and a steal.
The Braves (4-2) will have an entire week to prepare for their next game, a Dec. 7 visit to nationally-ranked Michigan State. The 3 p.m. (CST) game at Michigan State's Breslin Center will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
