BRADENTON, Fla. -- Junior centerfielder Dan Brewer hit his first home run of the year, a 3-run blast in the fourth inning, then drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth, leading Bradley (6-8) to a 7-6 victory versus Miami-Ohio (4-11) in the final game of the team's Spring Break Tuesday morning at IMG Academy.

Senior pitcher Lendsey Thomson, a transfer from the University of Missouri, picked up his first Bradley win, evening his record a 1-1 by tossing 7.0 strong innings against the Redhawks.  Thomson scattered eight hits and allowed five runs, four earned, while walking three and striking out four.  After junior Tyler Thornton allowed one run in the eighth, second baseman Kori Jensen took over on the mound to start the ninth and worked around a leadoff double to earn his second save of the season.

Miami outhit Bradley, 11-9, and the Braves committed five errors, but Bradley came through with the timely hits they needed in the fourth and sixth innings to pull ahead.  Brewer's blast in the fourth capped a 4-run inning and gave the Braves a 4-1 lead.  Miami came back with three in the bottom of thefourth to forge a 4-4 tie.

Miami's third pitcher, Jamaal Hollis, started the sixth for the Redhawks and suffered the loss.  After giving up consecutive one-out singles to Jim Clayton and Tommy Fitzgerald, Hollis walked Jensen to load the bases and set the table for the top of Bradley's lineup.  Adam Eaton relieved Hollis and got Brewer to hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Clayton to score from third.  Mike Brumleve, who replaced the injured Grant Escue (ankle) at first base earlier in the game, followed with a 2-run double to cap the rally and give the Braves a 7-4 lead.

The Redhawks creeped back to within 7-6 by scoring single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, then tried to put together a ninth-inning rally against Jensen.  Jordan Petraitis led off the ninth with a double, but Johnny Nurre's sacrifice attempt was too hard and Jensen was able to throw out Petraitis at third for the first out.  Undeterred, however, Miami got a two-out single from Blake Chaffee, but Jensen got Josh Hula to fly out to end the game.

The Braves will make a brief stop in Peoria Thursday morning before heading to Evansville for a 3-game weekend series to open their Missouri Valley Conference schedule.  Friday's series opener has been pushed back to 6 p.m. due to heavy rains that have hit the area.  The series is scheduled to continue with a 2 p.m. game Saturday and a 1 o'clock game Sunday afternoon.
