WICHITA, Kan. - The Bradley volleyball team opened its final road trip of the season Friday night with a 25-20, 25-8, 25-12 loss at Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State at Charles Koch Arena. Bradley (9-20 overall, 0-15 MVC) hit just .058, while Wichita State (21-4 overall, 12-3 MVC) hit .506 and had four players with at least nine kills.
In the first set, back-to-back aces by sophomore Megan Schmidt (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) tied the score at 14. After a Wichita State timeout, Schmidt scored her third straight point to give the Braves a 15-14 lead. However, the Shockers responded with an 11-5 run to take the first set 25-20.
Wichita State opened the second set with a 15-5 run and cruised to a 25-8 win. The third set started much like the second, as the Shockers jumped out to a 9-3 advantage. A kill by freshman Madelyn Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) cut Wichita State's lead to five, 11-6. The Shockers answered Ervin's kill with a 14-6 run to end set three 25-12.
Ervin finished the match with a team-high seven kills for Bradley, while Wichita State's Emily Stockman led all players with 13 kills. Freshman Skylar Lesan (Solon, Iowa/Solon) had 18 of Bradley's 21 assists and sophomore Rachelle Dejean (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished with eight digs.
The Braves will play their last road match of the season Saturday, Nov. 14 at Missouri State at 7 p.m.
