PEORIA, Ill. -- Second-year Bradley Softball head coach Amy Hayes added one more player to the roster for the 2010 season, announcing shortstop/utility player Taylor Cox (Greeley, Colo./Andover Central [Kan.]) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Bradley.
A 5-5 left-handed hitter, Cox was a four-time letterwinner at Loveland High School in Loveland, Colo., before transferring to Andover Central High School in Andover, Kan., for her final semester of high school. She was a three-time All-Centennial Conference selection and was a two-time Class 5A All-State honoree. Cox helped her summer team, the Colorado Comets to a third-place finish at the Triple Crown World Series in Park City, Utah, this summer.
"Taylor is one of those kids who totally slipped through the cracks," Hayes said. "Plans change and luckily we were at the right place at the right time. She is an exceptionally gifted athlete who is a true shortstop, but can play anywhere. She is a heady, gritty and aggressive ballplayer who will make an immediate impact on our program. Playing for a competitive team like the Comets helped showcase her this summer, and we are glad she found a home on The Hilltop."
Cox is the fifth recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Braves, joining outfielder Brittany Fairbairn (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East/Kankakee C.C.), catcher/utility Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.), pitcher Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) and Brandi Ore (Versailles, Ky./Paul Laurence Dunbar) in the incoming recruiting class. Bradley returns 15 of 20 letterwinners, including five of the top seven hitters and two pitchers from last year's team which finished 26-28 overall and made the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
