Box Score
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Senior catcher Kevin Sullivan (Elmhurst, Ill./Oakton J.C./York H.S.) was 3-for-4 with three doubles, but four Bradley errors proved to be the difference as the Braves fell to Gonzaga 6-4 in the consolation game of the Irish Baseball Classic Sunday morning.
Bradley took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when junior outfielder Brian Martin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./College of DuPage/Lombard Montini Catholic H.S.) scored on a 6-3 double play. Two Bradley errors in the bottom of the first led to two unearned runs as Gonzaga plated three in the inning to take a 3-1 edge.
A two-out RBI single from senior first baseman Mike McMillan (Bloomington, Ill./Normal University H.S.) made it a 3-2 game in the fifth, but the Bulldogs responded with two runs on three hits in the bottom half to make the score 5-2.
Sullivan cut the Zags' lead to two, 5-3, with an RBI double in the seventh, but Gonzaga regained its three-run edge with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. The Braves added another run in the eighth on an RBI single by Martin, but Gonzaga closer Billy Moon retired 6-of-7 batters in the final 2.0 innings to preserve the 6-4 victory.
Sullivan led the Braves with three hits, while Martin and freshman infielder Jason Leblebijian (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) added two hits each. Freshman right-hander Andy Johnson (Medina, Minn./Wayzata H.S.) took the loss on the mound for Bradley, allowing three earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.
The Braves (4-6) will be back in action Tuesday, March 16 at the Russmatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational against Indiana at 2 p.m.
