PEORIA, Ill. -- With only two weeks remaining in the regular-season, the Bradley softball team heads to Wichita State this weekend for the final road series of the year. The Braves open a three-game series against the Shockers Saturday with a noon doubleheader and close out the set Sunday with a single game at noon.
This weekend's series will go a long way in determining the final three spots up for grabs in the upcoming State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship (May 13-15) in Des Moines, Iowa. Bradley (15-28 overall, 5-15 MVC) is currently ninth in the Valley standings, but could overtake eighth-place Wichita State (17-28 overall, 6-12 MVC) with a weekend sweep.
Live stats and a subscription video stream are available via the Wichita State Athletics website (www.goshockers.com).
The Braves also enter the week just two games behind seventh-place Evansville (15-30 overall, 7-13 MVC), who hosts fifth-place Drake in the Purple Aces' final home series of the season.
The top eight teams in the final regular-season MVC standings advance to the State Farm MVC Championship. Each Valley team has six conference games remaining and five teams have locked up spots in the field (Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Creighton, Northern Iowa and Drake).
Bradley closes out the regular season at home against I-74 rival Illinois State (May 8 & 9) at Laura Bradley Park. Saturday's doubleheader against the league-leading Redbirds will be the Braves' Pink Game with a special recognition of breast cancer survivors between games. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to Saturday's games and the Braves will be wearing pink shoe laces, sweatbands and warm ups.
The May 9 game against ISU will be Senior Day with seniors Amanda Clack (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro), Lauren Meister (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South), Janay Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South), Megan O'Malley (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Jacqueline Vitale (Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons Township) and Lindsay Watkins (Hopedale, Ill./Olympia/Parkland) recognized in a pregame ceremony.
