Box Score WICHITA, Kan. -- For the second time in three matches, freshman Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) collected a season-high in kills to lead Bradley; but the Braves couldn't keep pace with a hot-hitting Wichita State squad which hit .373 to top BU 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 Friday at Koch Arena.
Wichita State (14-7 overall, 8-3 MVC) improved its hitting percentage in each of the three sets, culminating in a .500 hitting percent in the third set and had three individuals with 10 or more kills as the Shockers swept Bradley (9-13 overall, 2-10 MVC) in the first match of a two-match road swing for the Braves.
Keefe had a season-best 15 kills to lead BU offensively and was the only Bradley player with more than seven kills in the setback. Senior Rachelle Dejean (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) recorded a team-best 13 digs to take over sole possession of third on BU's career digs list and enters Saturday's match at Missouri State needing five digs to move into second on Bradley's career list.
Bradley trailed 10-8 in the first set, when the Shockers used 6-2 spurt to build a 16-10 advantage. The Braves pulled within three points (19-16), before Emily Adney had four kills down the stretch to close out a 25-20 Wichita State win.
The Shockers never trailed in the second set and hit .406 in the frame en route to a 25-19 win and two-sets-to-none lead. Bradley was within one point (12-11), before Wichita State went on a 7-1 run to go ahead 19-12 and never let the Braves get closer than three points.
Bradley had trouble keeping pace with Wichita State in the third set, with the Shockers boasting a .500 attack percentage in the final set and taking control of the frame with a 13-3 run. Things were knotted at 8-8, when Ashley Andrade highlighted the decisive run with five kills and two blocks to help power Wichita State to a 25-16 victory.
Adney led Wichita State with 15 kills and attacked at a .500 clip. Camri Zwiesler had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Andrade finished with 10 kills and four blocks to help lead the Shockers. Sarah Waldorf helped Wichita State to a 51-43 lead in digs, collecting a match-high 22 digs.
Bradley returns to action Saturday, taking on Missouri State at 7 p.m. in Springfield, Mo., to close out a two-match road swing.
