NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Zach Messer drove home the winning run with a 13th inning single and host Lipscomb (1-1) used a pair of late-game rallies to knock off visiting Bradley (1-1) in college baseball action Saturday afternoon at Dugan Field.
The Braves took a 2-1 lead in the eighth and a 3-2 lead in the 13th only to see the hosts rally back both times. Sophomore left fielder Mike Tauchman had an RBI single to put the Braves on the board in the eighth and freshman first baseman Derek Sprout added a bases-loaded walk later in the ining to give Bradley its first lead.
Lipscomb got the run back in the bottom of the eighth when M.L. Williams doubled and scored on a Tennyson Dodd sacrifice fly for a 2-2 tie.
Sprout started Bradley's 13th inning rally by drawing a one-out walk. He went to third on a Jason Leblebijian single and scored on a base hit by freshman catcher Austin Jarvis.
Junior reliever Justin Ziegler (0-1), who earned the save in Friday's 4-3 win against Dayton, could not hold Saturday's lead, however. He issued a leadoff walk and hit the next batter to put runners at first and second with no outs. The Bison got the tying run when second baseman Jerrod Eigsti booted a ground ball and Messer followed with his game-winning hit.
Highlighted by Leblebijian's 3-for-5 effort, Bradley outhit the hosts, 9-7.
The Braves will wrap-up the season-opening trip to Nashville by playing a pair of games Sunday, at 11 a.m. versus Dayton and at 2 o'clock versus Lipscomb.
