PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior outfielder Julie Sherman (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley softball team to a 3-1 record and the tournament title at last week's Troy Classic in Troy, Ala.
An all-tournament selection at the Troy Classic, Sherman hit .545 (6-for-11) with three runs and one RBI in three games played. She went 3-for-4 against Troy with a double and a game-tying sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to force extra innings. Sherman was 2-for-4 in a 4-1 win against Central Arkansas and extended her hit streak to a career-best five games with a 1-for-3 effort in BU's win against North Florida. A psychology major, Sherman owns a 3.40 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Sherman and the Braves return to action Friday, opening play at the UTEP Invitational with a 10:30 a.m. (CST) game against New Mexico State in El Paso, Texas.
