Box Score
AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Bradley sophomore pitcher John Nasshan threw a 5-hit shutout and senior centerfielder Brian Martin was on base five times, leading the Braves (8-4) to their fourth consecutive victory, a 6-0 decision against Air Force (6-8) at Lake Myrtle Park in the RussMatt Baseball 2011 Central Florida Invitational.
The Falcons did not get a runner past first base until consecutive 1-out singles in the ninth put runners at the corners, but Nasshan (2-1) secured his first career shutout when he induced a game-ending double play. The 6-foot-6 righthander walked one and struck out five.
The Braves benefitted from a pair of Air Force errors in the second inning to get all of the scoring they needed. Shortstop Jason Leblebijian hit a 1-out single and advanced to second when catcher Austin Jarvis reached on an error by the Falcons second baseman. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch by Falcons starter Michael Ceci (1-3) and right fielder Bob Schuch brought home Leblebijian with a sacrifice fly. Martin, who was 3-for-5, reached on a fly ball error in right field that allowed Jarvis to score. After advancing to second on the play, Martin scored on third baseman Rob Elliott's single to center for a 3-0 lead.
The Braves pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth after Jarvis opened the frame with a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and took third on a Shuch sacrifice bunt. Martin hit an RBI single, then advanced to third on failed pickoff attempt by Ceci. Following a pitching change and ground out by Elliott, left fielder Mike Tauchman plated Martin with an infield single.
The fourth of five Air Force errors led to Bradley's final run in the fifth inning. First baseman Derek Sprout reached on an outfield error and advanced to second on the play, then scored on Leblebijian's 1-out single.
Bradley will play for its fifth consecutive victory Sunday when the Braves take on Massachusetts in a 4:30 p.m. (CST) contest.
