KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Bradley freshman catcher Austin Jarvis went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, leading the Braves (5-4) to a 13-4 victory versus Morehead State (1-9) in the second day of the Tennessee Classic Saturday morning at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Bradley starting pitcher John Nasshan (1-1) tossed 8.0 strong innings for his first career win. The sophomore right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts Saturday.
Morehead State committed five errors, including three in the first four innings that led to Bradley's four runs. The Braves took the lead for good, 3-1, with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. Shortstop Jason Leblebijian drew a one-out walk and Jarvis followed with a single. After Bob Schuch followed with a ground out that advanced the runners to second and third, centerfielder Brian Martin followed with a ground ball that the MSU second baseman could not handle, allowing both runners to score.
The Braves outhit Morehead State, 13-7. Third baseman Rob Elliott was 2-for-5 with three runs batted in, while infielder Jerrod Eigsti (2-5) and Schuch (2-3) both added two hits. The bottom three hitters in the Bradley order - Leblebijian, Jarvis and Schuch - combined to go 7-for-10 at the plate and reached safely in 13 of their 15 plate appearances with seven runs scored.
Bradley will close out play in the Tennessee Classic Sunday morning versus Indiana.
