Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley shot 29.6 percent in the second half and Drake's Kyndal Clark scored 17 of her career and game-high 20 points in the second half to help Drake rally for a 77-65 victory over Bradley Friday at Renaissance Coliseum. The loss snapped the Braves season-long four-game home win streak.
Drake (14-13 overall, 8-8 MVC) got off to a hot start, connecting on 9-of-10 shots to open the game and raced out to an 21-10 lead seven minutes into the contest. Bradley (14-13 overall, 5-10 MVC) chipped away at the Bulldog advantage, limiting Drake to 1-for-7 shooting over a near seven-minute stretch and pulled within five (23-18) near the eight-minute mark.
The Braves closed the opening period with a flurry scoring the final 11 points of the period and outscoring the Bulldogs 14-2 over the final three minutes of the half. Sophomore Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) opened the closing spurt with a three-pointer and later added a steal and three-point play to go along with two assists during the closing stretch to help BU take a 37-33 lead into the locker room.
Bradley pushed its lead to eight points in the opening minute of the second half and led 50-45 after a Shronda Butts (Des Moines, Iowa/East) hoop at the 13-minute mark, but the Braves went cold from the field. BU went over seven minutes without a field goal and Drake answered with a 13-4 run to go in front 58-54.
A Kelly Frings three-pointer at 5:41 ended the Bradley drought and put the Braves back in front 59-58. Drake's Liza Heap answered with a pull-up jumper from the elbow and a BU turnover was followed by a pair of Clark free throws. After Bradley pulled within three (64-61), Clark nailed a three-pointer from the wing to push the Bulldogs advantage to 67-61 with 3:15 to play.
The Drake lead was 70-63 with 1:47 to play after Rachael Hackbarth split a pair of free throws and the Bulldogs made 7-of-8 free throw attempts in the final 90 seconds of the game to seal the 77-65 victory.
Sophomore Catie O'Leary (Janesville, Wis./Parker/Wisconsin) led Bradley in scoring with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Butts (15 points) and senior Leah Kassing (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County), who finished with 11 points. Senior MacKenzie Westcott (Williamsburg, Iowa/Williamsburg) collected eight points and a team-high six rebounds in addition to a block and four steals.
Bradley made 21-of-26 free throw attempts (80.8 percent) and committed 15 turnovers, but Drake held a 34-30 rebounding advantage and limited the Braves to 37 percent shooting. The Bulldogs shot 53.1 percent from the field and made 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) three-point attempts.
Clark made 5-of-6 from the field in the second half and finished with a game-high 20 points. Morgan Reid and Carly Grenfell each added season-bests of 16 points, while Hackbarth turned in her 13th consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
Bradley closes out the final home stand of the season Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against Creighton at Renaissance Coliseum. Seniors Latasha Hollingshed, Leah Kassing, Hanna Muegge, Lauren Niemiera and MacKenzie Westcott will be playing the final home games of their careers and will be recognized following the contest. The first 300 fans will receive a free rally towel.
