Box Score
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State bounced back from Friday night's 13-2 loss to visiting Bradley (20-15-1, 5-6 MVC) by evening the weekend Missouri Valley Conference baseball series with a 12-3 win Saturday afternoon at Duffy Bass Field.
Redbirds left fielder Ty Wiesemeyer was 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five runs batted in to pace the home team. Illinois State (21-14, 3-7 MVC) scored five runs on five hits to take a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Wiesemeyer had an RBI single in the second to end Bradley starter Justin Ziegler's day, then broke the game open with his fourth-inning blast.
The 9-1 cushion was more than enough cushion for Redbirds starter Dylan Craig, who improved to 5-2 by allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts in his 6.0 innings.
Hitting in the ninth spot in the Bradley order, first baseman Andrew Wasmund was 2-for-4 with a home run, left fielder Mike Tauchman went 3-for-5 and freshman second baseman Chris Godinez hit his third home run of the year to highlight Bradley's offensive effort.
Bradley will face its fourth consecutive Sunday "rubber" game when the teams wrap up their weekend series with a 1 p.m. game at Duffy Bass Field. The Braves earned Sunday wins at Western Illinois (April 1) and at home against Missouri State (April 8) to win two of their last three weekend 3-game sets. Indiana State used a 14-3 win last Sunday at O'Brien Field to win its series against the Braves.
NOTES: Freshman center fielder Max Murphy singled in his final at-bat in the eighth inning Saturday in a 1-for-4 performance, extending his hitting streak to nine games ... Murphy has been on base in all 36 games this season.
