Box Score DURHAM, N.C. -- Bradley turned in its most efficient offensive effort in at least 20 years, hitting a blistering .456 as a team in a three-set sweep of Elon Friday afternoon at the North Carolina Central Invitational.
After a slow start, the Braves (1-0 overall) hit a combined .560 in the final two sets en route to a convincing 25-22, 25-12, 25-16 victory against the Phoenix (0-2 overall). Junior Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) helped highlight the offensive attack, collecting a match-high 11 kills while hitting at a .733 clip.
Bradley's .456 attack percentage was the team's best attack percentage through at least the 1992 season, the last year complete box scores are available for in the Bradley Athletics archives.
Senior Madelyn Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) hit .500 and added seven kills and two aces, while sophomore Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) chipped in with six kills and four aces. The duo helped BU seruve up eight aces in the sweep.
Junior Lauren Zerante (Elmhurst, Ill./York) made her debut at libero, finishing with a match-high 15 digs and sophomore Madison Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) collected 34 assists to help highlight the win.
In the opening set, junior Alise Tupuritis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) collected four kills to highlight a 25-22 BU victory. She went on to finish the match with nine kills on just 17 swings.
Angelos tallied seven kills on seven attack attempts, helping Bradley boast a .654 hitting percentage in the frame. The Braves recorded 18 kills with just one hitting error, jumping out to a 23-9 lead in a 25-12 win.
Bradley used an 11-3 run midway through the third set to take control of the final set. Ervin found the floor with four kills on seven attacks in a 25-16 BU win to complete the sweep.
The Braves close out play at the North Carolina Central Invitational Saturday with matches against tournament-host North Carolina Central at 10 a.m. (CDT) and Winthrop at 1:30 p.m. (CDT).
