PEORIA, Ill. - As summer collegiate league postseason honors continue to be doled out, the Bradley Baseball team has been well represented.
In addition to being named the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Gary Henschen Player of the Year, Bradley sophomore outfielder Max Murphy was rated the No. 1 overall pro prospect in the GLSCL by Perfect Game. Among the other top honors, former Bradley pitcher Justin Ziegler was named the Jayhawk League Pitcher of the Year.
Playing for the Stark County Terriers, Murphy hit .369 with a league-high nine home runs. He also ranked second with 34 runs batted in and 14 doubles. In his first season with the Braves in 2012, Murphy was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American after hitting .285 with nine home runs and 38 RBI's as Bradley's starting center fielder in all 55 games.
A right-hander who graduated from Bradley in May, Ziegler finished the summer with a 6-2 record, posting a 2.17 earned-run average in 11 appearances (66.1 innings), helping the Hays Larks to the best record in the Jayhawk League and a third-place finish in the NBC World Series. Ziegler led the Larks in innings pitched, strikeouts (55) and surrendered just 10 walks, while pitching two complete games.
