Box Score
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. – Bradley third
baseman Curtiss Bunch tied the
single-game school record with three doubles and a pair of pitchers combined on
a 4-hit shutout as the Braves (6-9) won their third straight game, a 7-0
decision at Lipscomb (6-13) Friday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field.
Junior righthander John Nasshan (1-3) allowed just two
hits in eight shutout innings to start the game and freshman righty Elliot Ashbeck worked around a pair of
singles and a walk to pitch a scoreless ninth to complete Bradley's first
shutout since a 4-0 home win against Southern Illinois May 8, 2011, a game also
started by 8.0 innings from Nasshan. The
Braves had not posted a shutout in a true road game since a 4-0 win at
Arkansas-Little Rock Feb. 25, 2011.
The Braves got all the offense they
needed in the first inning when sophomore center fielder Max Murphy blasted a 2-run home run to deep left field. Bunch added RBI doubles in the second and
fourth innings, then legged out his third double of the day in the eighth
inning, the 18th time a Bradley player has doubled three times in a single game
and the first time since Matt Fritz completed the trifecta April 25, 2010 at
Evansville.
The Braves will remain in Nashville
for their next two games, Saturday (4 p.m.) at Belmont and Sunday back at
Lipscomb. Sunday's game against the
Bisons has been moved up an hour, to noon, to accommodate Bradley's flight to Orlando
for next week's games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
NOTES: Senior left fielder Mike Tauchman beat out a bunt single in
front of Murphy's home run in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to
nine games … Junior DH Greg Partyka,
who was hit by a pitch in the fifth and tripled in the ninth inning, has
reached base safely in 14 consecutive games … Nasshan did not allow a hit until
one out in the fourth inning and, aided by a pair of inning-ending double
plays, faced only four hitters more than the minimum in his 8.0 innings Friday.
